7 in 10 say cities must offer new experiences to stay relevant: survey

The survey also pointed out five urban living priorities of APAC consumers.

Seventy percent of consumers said that cities must offer new experiences to stay relevant as consumers in APAC demand high-quality experiences from people-first urban spaces, according to JLL’s Survey.

The survey identified creating destination spaces; integrating experience across real estate developments; connecting the physical and digital; focusing on human-centric design; and understanding the value drivers of shared experiences as the top five priorities of APAC consumers.

Respondents, particularly millennials (80%), said they are willing to pay a premium for this quality experience.

Concurrently, integrating digital solutions into in-person experiences offers opportunities, with 64% saying they prefer shopping in-person versus online.

JLL believes that developers and investors can capitalise on these habits via experiential retail and online/offline services, using artificial intelligence, different booking apps, and digital enhancements.

“Demand for destination places and spaces will only grow in Asia Pacific, as consumers expect greater choice and quality in the places where they live, work and visit, and the built environment will need to reflect this shift to capitalise on the new experience opportunity,” Sandeep Sethi, president of JLL Work Dynamics in APAC, said.
